hi there, i have just re-built a PC using the original XP installation CD then loading SP1 on afterwards as i dont have a CD with them integrated.

i then went to install IIS and got the error "please insert Microsoft CD with SP1" - some of the files its asking for i have either on the install disk or within the service pack, but not all that are needed.

so all i could install was the FTP services, which when viewed using the MMC snap on show a lot of keys greyed out, which i understand is whats happens if you use IIS 5.1 - which it shows up as under the ABOUT menu - i thought XP came with IIS 6.0

does anyone know about this, i.e why my install is asking for the Microsoft CD with SP1 on it - im sure people were installing IIS before SP1 came along...

Are you using an original Microsoft XP disk, or an OEM restore disk?

thanks for the reply, i am using an original and legitimate XP install disk which doesn’t have SP1 on it, i don’t have a recovery disk for this PC.

Thanks -- yep -- none of the XP disks would have SP1 on it, but the OEM stuff sometimes has some goofy modifications.

Unfortunately I've never installed IIS on XP. On Win2K it is 5. I'm not certain about XP, but I would have assumed it was 5 also. Hmmm.....

I'm assuming you installed SP1 from Windows Update?

Interesting. That may be the CD it needs.
