Installed new hard drive and XP on laptop, now I can,t get green light to activate on ethernet plug. No internet connection. Should't XP have all the drivers necessary to activate?

No, XP does not have every NIC driver in the world. Never install an OS until you make sure that the drivers are available.

What model NIC or chipset is it? Go to their site. Download the driver and burn it to a CD.

I just noticed something, i have two Windows installed 2000 and XP. I thought it would overide 2000 when i installed XP. If i start it in 2000, the ethernet card works, but if i start it in XP, the ethernet won't work. How can i get it to work on XP? How can I get rid of 2000?

Boot to 2000 and download the driver for XP. Burn it to a CD. Boot to XP and install the driver.
