hey,
i reformatted my hard drive, but i want to now install my windows ME. The only boot disk i have is the packard bell windows 98 system restore disk.

When i put that in it tries to boot the cd but it cant because its not the packard bell system restore cd.

However, i just press the "esc" key which takes it to dos prompt.

For some reason when i type "RUN" or "D:/RUN" or anything with run in it, it again tries to think that the packard bell system restore cd is in and not try to run the CD and that is the Winme CD.

(reference. D:/ = My Cd rom root).

What can i do to get over this problem?

With your ME CD in the drive, enter these commads from the prompt:

cd d:\
dir

you should see setup.exe in the directory listing.
try executing setup.exe

if it won't launch, then go here: http://freepctech.com/pc/002/files010.shtml

download a win98 boot disk, have a blank floppy ready, run the file, follow the instructions.

Boot with the new disk. With the ME cd in the drive, enter d:\setup.exe at the prompt.

It shouldn't matter. You are only going to use it to boot your machine. The important thing is to get your system booted to dos so you can run setup.

Have you tried those commands with your other boot disk?

Ah, I see. You might as well download a boot disk then just so you will have it. Keep us posted :)
