Hi, I recently formatted my HDD and re-installed XP, now for some reason my PC doesnt connect to the internet at all, have tried ipconfig/release and /renew to no avail, set up network ok, connects to home network but IE keeps telling me it has no internet connection, am I missing something? Just about to kick the case out the window!

Like so many other people, you forgot to make sure that you had the hardware drivers before you reinstalled.

Gord - that's most likely the case. Go into Control Panel > System > Hardware tab > Device Manager. Expand the Network Adapters node and see if you see anything with a yellow symbol next to it. If so, that's an indicator that you have either the wrong or no driver for the device installed.
I'd love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code.

Look at the device manager, network adapters. Are there any yellow or red marks there?
