Ive been trying to download files off of the limewire file sharing thing, but I was told it won't work because i'm behind a firewall. I did a google search, and I found this forum. Maybe someone knows if there's a way around this, or if I have to accept my fate.

Kind of depends on what OS your using and what firewalls you have. If you use windows (like most people) you prolly have the default settings on IE so go to My Computer>My Network Places>View network connections> and right click on Local area connection and click properties, then click the advanced tab and check off the Internet connection firewall. Hope that helps!

Well, I don't use windows. Sorry, should have specified. I use Mac Osx 10.2.4 on an I book. I don't really know what kind of firewall I am behind, all I know is that it is provided by my school, since i am in a dorm.
thanks anyway tho...

It is like kazaa, in that it's a file sharing proggy, and since the firewall is at school, you might as well uninstall it, because the admin isn't going to change the DMZ for that. Whether it's legal to use it or not depends on what it's being used for. (File sharing can be beneficial. Some files are just too large to be transfered in email). It's also considered Adware by proggies like Adaware, and if I recall from the stuff I removed from some computers at work it also installs a spyware proggie called PTSnoop (or something like that).

I've speant a couple weeks removing it and kazaa and a multitude of other Adware/Spyware proggies like weatherbug, my search, my searchbar, etc... off of computers at work. Adaware found 356 objects on one of them. That computer got nothing but popups when you went to the internet, and it was so bad that they had it sitting in a closet cause no one could figure out how to use it. Took four hours to clean it and update all the security patches. Fortunately I only found one virus so far.

Yeah, but can Win MX get past firewalls, and is there a version for mac osx? I assumed it was only for windows ( i have it on my PC at home, and it would be great except for a really bad modem connection.)

I am having a Limewire problem too. I have a Windows XP, and downloading from limewire is fine until i try to upload into itunes. There was one song that I downloaded and when I uploaded it to itunes it went in, but on my ipod it didn't play. I deleted it and downlaoded a different version of the same song and now it just won't upload. See if you can help me. Thanks so much.

I use limewire to send loint project files to my partner. Im on a Mac, and yes, you can use limewire behind a firewall. Goto System Preferences>Sharing Folder>Firewall and scroll all the way down until you see Gnutella/Limewire and check the box.
