Is there some codec to play music? All of my players now refuse to play music... it says that it is a bad file or something but they have played them before flawlessly...

Actually, I assumed that it was a problem with my file, but I haven't actually read the error message (stupid me). It actually says that theres a problem with my sound device... it suggests that another program could be using it or it could be malfunctioning... how can I fix that?

Thanks in advance.

you might want to reinstall the drivers for your sound device. if it is on the board, you might wanna go to the website from the motherboard manufacter to get the latest drivers for the sound. if you have a sound card then same thing. if it were a codec problem maybe this might help you:

1. Remove sound card from comp.
2. Secure a hammer in your right hand.
3. Swing Hammer down repeatedly onto sound card.
4. Buy new sound card.
5. Install sound card.

Anyways,
I would uninstall it from the device manager, reboot and reinstall drivers....

Go to start>run type dxdiag

If you are prompted to check for WHQL digital signatures select yes.

Go to the sound 1, sound 2 and music tabs and run all available tests.

Check the Notes section of each for errors and report back "EXACTLY" what the errors are for each test that generates errors.

DxDiag Log wrote:
DirectX Files Tab: No problems found.
Display Tab 1: No problems found.
Sound Tab 1: No sound card was found. If one is expected, you should install a sound driver provided by the hardware manufacturer.
Music Tab: No problems found.
Input Tab: No problems found.
Network Tab: No problems found.

That is what the Dxdiag log says... looks like the sound card is uninstalled or something... although I never did anything to it before and it suddenly stopped reading the sound card.

you should follow the second part of my last post about going through the device manager.......

Right Click My Computer
Select Properties
Click Hardware tab
Click Device Manager
Look for Sound Video and Game controllerss
See what the problem is....

I sugest uninstalling it, rebooting your computer, then reinstalling the device with the correct drivers.

Is your sound card built into the MOBO? or is it a separate device?

If it's onboard, then do as jflynn suggested and delete it from Device Manager, reboot and let it reinstall the drivers. It wouldn't hurt to check for updated drivers from the manufacturer. If you don't know your soundcard manufacturer download and run PC Wizard 2008 (It will tell you virtually everything about what's in your computer.)

If it's a separate card also delete it from Device Manager, Shut Down 9power off). Remove the card and reseat it. Reboot and let it find the hardware and install the drivers.

Okay, I installed Bonjour, it didn't fix the problem, I uninstalled iTunes, it didn't fix the problems (Bonjour is still running), now I'm going to uninstall Bonjour and see if it would work without Bonjour and iTunes, although I doubt that would fix it... it seems to be more of the driver's problem... I'll try some of your suggestions on it... thanks :)

Dude, reinstalling won't work since their is nothing to reinstall. I'll have to install the driver once I get the software to install it... after I play with my card... I was playing with my computer's insides trying to fix a hardware problem and I could have simply unplugged the drive for the audio...

jesus man, the only answer i can find about not having something to install is that you don;t know what is the manufacter for your sound card is, for even the ones on board have a driver that is easy to find on the manufacter's website. anyway, at least i tried to help lol. i suggested that cause i had a similar error with my printer a couple of months ago. that error you mentioned was the one that made me thing you should have INSTALL the driver. anyhow bye and good luck
