i have a dell desktop 3.0 gig...it has never had an aftermarket card put in so it is still running on the onboard video...i tried to put an upgrade video card in and when i started it back up all i got was a black screen..after a few days of messing with it with no results and still a black screen someone suggested to pull the cmos battery and clear the cmos...i did that and the computer started up and no black screen...back to normal...my question is how can i install the upgrade card without getting a black screen?...do i have to change a setting in setup?..any help would be apreciated...thanks in advance

When having inserted that video-card, do you get a black screen on both
the video outputs (the new card and the existing on board one)?

You might need to set an option in the BIOS, called something like
"Init video-device", "Onboard/AGP", "PCI/AGP" or similar to let the PC
know that you'll be using the new card.

A look in the manual might also enlighten things

Peter.
