my buddy has aq sytsemax laptop with windows xp home edition service pack 2 with an Intell Core 2 duo T5250 @ 1.50GHz 987MHz, 0.9965 RAM. it has a few trojans on it and maybe a few viruses, he used Avast! antivirus and ccleaner and defragged it and it not sure if he ridded his comp of them. it seems to be running REALLY slow and is wondering what to do next. i appreciate all replies and any help.

Thanx,
SaRGe

Run msconfig and disable whatever he doesn't need to load a boot time. If there is anything strange that just shouldn't be there, delete it or uninstall it.

I just learned this about 2 days ago, :D
Anyway, Don, Could I open the msconfig without using the run>cmd>

Can I instead go to control panel or something?

You can use File, Run in the Task Manager

You can also find it in one of the two directories listed below. Navigate there in explorer or use the command prompt.

C:\WINDOWS\pchealth\helpctr\binaries

C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache

alt tab let's you switch windows.

alt F4 closes a window.

alt enter makes a command prompt a full screen and back again except in Vista. People aren't happy about that.

ctrl C (^C) brings you back to the command prompt. That works in Unix also. The ^ sign is used to denote the ctrl key

^+ or ^- changes the font size in Firefox

alt F opens the file list in the browser
alt E opens the edit list
alt V opens the view list
alt S opens the history list
alt B Bookmarks
alt T Tools
alt H Help

F1 usually opens help too
F7 is spell check in some editors
F11 full screen

Those are just a few off the top of my head. If I think of some more or find a site, I'll let you know.

Are we getting into the ^ functions too? I thought he meant Windows specific (not program specific), such as Windows + F for the search prompt, ^ + ESC for start menu, etc

whats the shortcut that lets you search for text on a website? And if it finds the text it will highlight those words.

I used to know it and now I have forgot it :(

You have to click edit and find to search for text on a web site. That's the only way I know.

Make sure that USB is enabled in the BIOS, then check the drivers in the device manager.
