I agreed to help a friend out with there Compaq Presario 1400 Notebook.
It appeared that this person bought it from a friend of a friend . . . you get the picture, and it was quite cheap.
She's a single Mom and you know how that goes when you live in farm country, and can't afford sending it to a shop.
The PC is used, and I mean used!
It's internal CD ROM is pooched, but it came with a ext. USB CD ROM "Philips Jackrabbit CD-RW".
The HD is good and all the rest.
The problem is I haven't got an OS on 3.5 floppy other then Windows for Workgroups 3.11.
In this way, I could always network it to my system and use my CD ROM to install a newer OS "Windows 2000" or better. "If there is one".
My problem is this . . .
Out of all the software I have piled around my place, I have a working collection of MSDOS.
It truly would be so very helpful if someone here had Disk #3 of MSDOS 6.22 that could be zipped and sent to me or a site where I could download a new copy.
Any help in this matter would be grateful.

Sometimes you have to look at it as a lost battle.
I tried your suggestion to no avail.
But, thats what happens when you have to start from scratch.
I managed to find a complete MS-DOS OS online and loaded a OS with network abilities, but because of the legacy. software and the hardware not supported in either FreeDos or foundation Windows for Workgroups or MS-DOS 6.22, I found myself looking towards the most obv. solution.
Buy the damn hardware needed and be done with it!
Not to mention a OS in Windows with 3.5 Installation diskettes.
That would be Windows 95.
Ebay saved the day for my friend and I bought the needed software and hardware myself.
Living in the south, brought up in the north is a culture shock.
But, I'm living and learning.
Thanks for all your help and support.
But mostly, thanks for the FreeDos adventure.
I'll stick to Microsoft on that avenue, if it has to be that much work to get an OS to work, I would rather spend the money on someone that can make an OS work at its own value. You get what you pay for! Thanks again,
Bob
