Hi.. I am using nortan antivirus 8.1 Client and server
environment. My anti-virus client was managed by the
anti-virus server and can't do live update itself.

I went to symantec system center console and highlight
the client and choose properties . why all the option
are grey up? Actually I wanted to go to virus
defination manager to allow the client to do
liveupdate themselve but it is grey up. why? I
remember I can do it in my previous company.

Go to the server group and change the options there at group level.

If I'm following what you are saying correctly, group level or "server" level supercedes "client" level.

The Server is the only way I know of having the virus definitions updated your LAN Administrator will have to Update the Antivirus Server. I use Norton Antivirus Server on my Windows 2003 server and the client version of 7.6 and I just signed up for the news letter which comes out when the new virus definitions come out. It is always a 8mb file. Then at the next logon the client is updated. I see no way around updating the clients when a server is present.
