If the drive is bad, then you'll likely need to buy a new hard drive. They aren't that expensive anymore, especially if you're using an IDE drive rather than SATA.

You might be able to recover data by putting the drive in a different computer and accessing the data from there.

If you have a local computer repair place near you, they can likely perform a diagnostic for you to confirm that the drive is bad. If it is, they can also install a new one if you're uncomfortable doing it yourself. Ask about data recovery services as well.

Tried acessing it and retrieving files, but that didn't work. Ended up reformatting about 3 times and reinstalling XP about 6 times.

Anyway, problem solved. Thanks for your help guys :D

1. Disable all antivirus programs from starting up automatically -- do not disable firewall programs.
Visit Free Online Virus Scan page and run the virus checker to clean any new computer viruses from your system.
2. Visit your computer and other component manufacturers, and make sure you have the most recent Windows drivers for your video card, sound card, modem, printer, scanner, and for any other peripheral you use.
3. Upload the newest versions of your Internet browser and your mail programs.
4. If the problem is still not resolved, reload Windows into its current directory (do not format the hard drive). This should overwrite corrupt or missing system files.
5. The last thing you should do is format your hard drive and reload Windows. Please see the topics in the Computer Problem Help Index which discuss reloading Windows.
After reloading Windows, load your drivers and software applications one at a time, and reboot after each is loaded. Use your computer after each driver or program is loaded, this should allow you to pinpoint any offending program/driver.
