Here is a great free tool by Microsoft which allows you to speed up the boot time of your machine dramatically on Windows XP. Before I used this tool it took around 30-35 seconds to from the time I turned the computer on, until the time Windows completely loaded and I was online.

After using this tool, which optimizes your system for boot performance, my total boot time was decreased to about 20 seconds!

Anyway I strongly recommend you try out the little program if you are using Windows XP. Learn more here:

Is there anything you need to actually do, or just download it and it works from there? I opened the file, but dont see what I am supposed to do with it....

After you open it goto

Trace -> Optimize System

and then it will want to reboot and analyze your boot up, and then it will optimize your system so your bootup is much faster :)

Remember it only works for Windows XP.

nope i can't use it. It says Application only works on Windows XP platform. I don't have Windows XP running on my machine. Well, what you guys have said. I should go back to XP pro and use it. I wish it worked with Longhorn because it's really slow to boot up. Well later guys. :)

Maybe I'm wrong, but I was sure Longhorn was it's own platform...albeit
based off of XP. Not sure though.
