Playing WMP files without WMP?

I don't have WMP (Windows Media Player) installed, because I don't like using it, but some websites require it. For example, the MSN website. To view videos, you need WMP.

When playing WMP files externally (they not on the website such as msn.com/msnbc.com), RealOne plays them for me. That, I am pleased with. The only problem I have is that RealOne won't play the WMP files that are on websites.

I'd like to know if there's a plug in or something that could play WMP files (wma, wav, etc.) files without actually having WMP? I know there's something like this for RealOne, called RealAlternative. I like the idea of RealAlternative, because its not another application. Its just a plugin kind of thing.

I've been recommended to use other applications such as WinAMP, but that's not what I am looking for. All I need is a plug-in.

Any ideas?

Another thing that you can try...... when your playing these wmp file externally you are probley opening it with the real player like file open then choosing it......... if that is the case then what you might need to do is change the associations. You would want to go into windows explorer and choose tool | Folder Options | file types

Once you do this it will open up to different types of extensions. scroll down to the .wmp or what ever .extension you what to change and then change the software that it is set to open by default. Just make sure you make sure what it is before you make the change so that if after you make the change you can go back to what it was before.

Hope this takes care of the problem

I hate Microsoft that is why i use Slackware Linux and Wine to run what microsoft products i need in linux.
