I've been doing some reading on trying to build a server or a domain on windows xp pro for my office, i've not been able to find much apart from thnigs like it cant be done.

What i want to do is to be able to create usernames which i can then use on any pc within the office with all the default settings for that user already setup on the computer e.g email and desktop documents.

We have 3 computers and im currently using a fourth computer just to hold files on a mapped network drive.

Is there a way i can use the fourth computer as the server, through which the other 3 computers will logon because we use hot desking in the office or do i need to buy a dedicated server. A friend has offered to sell me his copy of windows 2003 at a cut price if i need to buy it.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

In order to have a domain you will need a server operating system such as 2003 Server or 2008 server. That is the only way you will be able to have centrally managed user accounts and profiles.
