What can cause windows XP to freeze when a CD or Floppy is left in the drives? It does not freeze while the CD/ floppy is in use, but if left in the drive will freeze. Can that be because of Auto read? Its not a virus I have already scanned and looked worms , viruses, spy-ware, etc.

Hi

Can you give us more info like how long does it freeze, is it for couple of seconds or you have to restart the computer? Also does it frezee when you search or browse the computer? And also when it does freeze do you hear noise like computer try to read the cd or the disk?

I am not sure about the noise because its not a computer at my house. I was told by the owner that when it does freeze nothing will respond and they have to up plug the computer completely to restart it. I told them to try to use Ctrl+Alt+delete before unpluging it and they said that doesn't work either. It froze when I was browsing their comp. But it was just because I gave it to many programs to open and run at once so it unfroze after a few seconds.

I told them not to leave disks in the drive , because well un pluging a computer with out shutting it down is not the best thing in world for it. Thanks for the info.

If you have a windows xp try this. I don't know if it is going to work but give it a shot.
Go to my computer on the desktop double click.
Click on the Tools
Folder options
than view tab
Uncheck the first option " Automatically search for network folders and printers.
( This will make your computer work much less while browsing the computer)
