Hello, been trying to reformat my PC, im using XP pro. Ive just re-installed windows, and was hoping it would have wiped the drive but it didnt. Ive followed all the instructions at http://www.ozzu.com/mswindows-forum/how-format-with-windows-pro-t1058.html (How do I Format with Windows XP Pro?) but when i right click on the drive in disk management i dont get a "format" option, i get a "create dynamic drive" option. what should i do?
..also if i just right clink on the drive in 'my computer' and clink 'format' it says it cant preform the operation because other programs or utilities are in use, ..but their not!
any help would be most appreciated. thanks -Brian

Restart your PC
Boot from CD
In the partition utility, choose to format your HD
follow the installation procedure

You can't format your system partition while you're IN IT.

to format, you will need to boot into the cd's setup mode as
Lieven suggests. If your bios doesn't support booting to cd
for some reason, you can always load the windows cd while
in windows, and then tell it to do a fresh installation. It will
then reboot into the setup automatically.

Once you're in the setup, it's pretty self-explanatory. Just
follow the directions as to what you want to accomplish.

yeah -- i was saying that if you couldn't get the cd to boot on
its own, that you could get the process of formatting started
by loading the cd's setup in windows.

anyway, glad it worked for you. :)

What you can do is call your customer support and ask for a hard drive wipeout floppy. At least thats what i use...

i have one of those as well. :)

wipes all markers off of the drive so it's as if a fresh/raw disk.
Instead of taking 10 min to format, it take .8 seconds to wipe.

However, you still end up having to format, so it's kind of "6 in
one..." :?
