Hi,
I want to establish a Remote Desktop Connection from a remote XP machine to a Windows 2000 server.
The win2000 serve is inside a firewall and so has a private IP address.
I have the public WAN address (62.69.72.xxx)

When messing around with Remote desktop connection, between two local machines (ie not going across the internet) i can simply enter the private IP address of the machine i want to contact.

But i am unsure of what IP address to enter when connecting over the internet do i use the WAN address (62.69.72.xxx) followed by the private address?

Do i have to open ports on the firewall?

please, any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks

You need to go into your router and forward port 3389 to the computer you are trying to connect to. After that is done, use your WAN IP as the address .
