I was trying to do a repair install on win xp.. it hung and caused problems.
I booted with a win2k and put that os on drive D.

Now it boots but gives me the choice at each boot of os windows 2000 or xp pro set up...
I don't want to continue with this set up as this disk is scratched and not reading properly is why I got errors {I think}.

I am going to get another cd, buy another windows xp. and install but it it is already half installed with that other cd should I get rid of that installation.
I don't want to keep 2k after I get xp back as well.

what, how where do I go, how to install, uninstall .
thanks

To bypass the Control Panel part in explorer use.. Tools -> options -> View -> Show hidden files and folders and untick "Hide Operating system files"
In C:\ you will find a file called Boot.ini, Open that and follow the instructions ATNO/TW gave you from the "Click on Edit to edit the startup options file (aka boot.ini) manually. That should open Notepad with something similar to the following from my machine:"

you can also use msconfig for a point and click interface to edit the boot.ini file, just click start - run - msconfig

In my opion here is the easier way to do this.

Right Click My Computer
Properties
Advanced
Under Startup And Recovery Click Settings
Choose Your Default Operating System and then uncheck time to display list of operating system....

xp install failed dll not found
I did a google search and found others with the same failure due to sprb0402.dll not found.
amd athlon
1 gig ram

xp pro sp2
The install was partial and then stopped due to the error of not finding the .dll file.
I found no resolutions to this other than it appears they used another disk and it worked. any ideas how to fix this?

This is the same xp disk I previously installed on this computer that is having troubles now.
I am not very experienced with all this. Details help. thanks.

I am on laptop now.
How do I stop this install. It is partial. do I delete the windows files on C drive.? I have windows 2000 on D drive now, temporary. trial version so I want to get windows xp back on. I'm used to it.
Is it disk failure or computer failure.
I tried to install over previous install got this error. I formated drive C and still go this error on install.
