Restart in Safe Mode (F5 or F8 while restarting) and make sure you can see hidden files and folders. Here's a link on how to do this:

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ts ... =&osv_lvl=

Then, find and delete the following:just do a search.

ns.exe
dveldr.exe
wuamgrd.exe

http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/analyse ... boths.html
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/av ... t.afj.html
And then run housecall just to see if it picks anything up.

Looks like you got a trojan. winole.exe
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/av ... pcbot.html

Trend Micro's House call didn't pick that up?

Also, you should go to add/remove programs and uninstall MyWay Search Assistant. That probably got on your system with some other application you installed.

You should make a permanent folder for Hijack This. Running it from a temporary folder isn't a good idea. Hijack This makes backups for fixed items. They'll eventually be deleted if they are saved in a temp folder.

I'm looking over you log right now and I'll tell you what needs to be fixed.

Print or copy the following so you will have the instructions handy.

Run Hijack This, Scan and check these items: (don't fix yet)
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = c:\windows\SYSTEM\blank.htm
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {707E6F76-9FFB-4920-A976-EA101271BC25} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {00041A26-7033-432C-94C7-6371DE343822} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: MyWay Search Assistant BHO - {04079851-5845-4dea-848C-3ECD647AA554} - C:\PROGRAM FILES\MYWAY\SRCHASTT\1.BIN\MYSRCHAS.DLL
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {62999427-33FC-4baf-9C9C-BCE6BD127F08} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows Compliant] winole.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Windows Compliant] winole.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Windows Compliant] winole.exe
O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler.exe
O4 - User Startup: PowerReg Scheduler.exe
O16 - DPF: {90C9629E-CD32-11D3-BBFB-00105A1F0D68} (InstallShield International Setup Player) - http://www.installengine.com/engine/isetup.cab
O16 - DPF: {AB29A544-D6B4-4E36-A1F8-D3E34FC7B00A} - http://www.wildtangent.com/install/wdri ... wtinst.cab

Optional Fixes - (these are not harmful but you don't need them at startup):
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SystemTray] SysTray.Exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NeroFilterCheck] C:\WINDOWS\system32\NeroCheck.exe
O4 - Startup: Adobe Gamma Loader.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Calibration\Adobe Gamma Loader.exe
O4 - User Startup: Adobe Gamma Loader.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Calibration\Adobe Gamma Loader.exe

I'm not sure what this is doing exactly:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSConfig] C:\WINDOWS\msconfig.exe /auto

Close all browsers and windows except Hijack-This and click 'Fix Checked'.

Reboot into safe mode.

Display hidden files and folders
Go to Start > Run
Enter: control folders
Go to the View tab.
Check "Show hidden files and folders"
Uncheck "Hide protected Operating System files"
Click OK

Open task manager and kill this process: winole.exe

Delete the following file:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\winole.exe

Clear Temporary Folders\Files and Internet Files
Go to start > run
Enter: cleanmgr

Make sure only the following are checked:
Temporary Internet files
Recycle Bin
Temporary Files

Click OK

Login for each user on your system and repeat the steps for Clearing Temporary Folders\Files and Internet Files.

Reboot, run Hijack This, scan, save the log, post the log.

I believe that is added when using selective startup.

Oh, okay. Probably not needed then. I never use msconfig to control startup programs. I always end up getting that message about selective startup.

foxy: You might consider fixing these with hijack this:

O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler.exe
O4 - User Startup: PowerReg Scheduler.exe

Here's some info on that: http://www.pestpatrol.com/pestinfo/p/po ... eduler.asp

This one I'm not sure about:
O16 - DPF: {9BFC2253-B9D9-477E-9488-CA450232620D} (BinAg1 Class) - https://merlin.telus.net/wizlet/Qualifi ... ctiveX.CAB

I couldn't find any real info about it. I saw it was selected for removal on a couple of different forums. You know what it's for?

Other than that, you look pretty clean. :)

That "PowerReg Scheduler.exe" isn't needed so you can safely fix that.

As for as the Windows Installer for Msnmsgs, it's probably happening because of this:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [msnmsgr] "C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msnmsgr.exe" /background

I get that sometimes when I try to launch an app while logged on as another user. That is, if I installed an app as one user and I try to launch it while logged on as another.

Fix that entry above with hijack this and then try launching msn messenger and see what happens.

K,gah... wont uninstall..

edit: I know why now. It was installed using the "9X installer" and since I upgraded to Nt/2000 it.. well something happened there or the upgrading from 6, to 6.1, to 6.2 something happened...... didnt want to uninstall.. I fixed it.. I redownloaded the Nt version, and when the Install screen showed up I pointed it towards the new installer :]

k, well, now reinstalled.. and it works :]

/me blames the lil bugs in the upgrade from 9x windows

grr.. Diskeeper became windows new defragmenter grrr! it turned to crap now.. was very good before
