It's the service that starts and stops all other services. What is the predominant error? What operating system? Which log? I'll assume it's the system log. The errors related to Service Control Manager usually deal with events that occur during start up. That's not all my questions but it'll get you started to a solution.

Maybe this issue is part of the reason, or just another symptom of his sound card not working.

I'm running Windows XP Professional... It's in the System's log, The dominant error is Service Control Manager and then there are some DCOM errors (whatever they are).

I just took time to read through a couple of the error messages and most of them are related to Apache2 which I removed yesterday... except one...

Error Message wrote:
The ##Id_String1.6844F930_1628_4223_B5CC_5BB94B879762## service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the path specified.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Whatever that service is... I don't know.

That service is mdnsresponder.exe is a process associated with "Bonjour for Windows" software. It is used by ITunes for music sharing. Note: Located in \%Program Files%\Bonjour\

It's a legit file but as jFlynn suggested that could be related to your audio problems since it is audio related.

Possibly check onto problems with Bonjour (maybe uninstall it and even uninstall iTunes) and see if that helps fix your audio problem.

More on Bonjour

http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ ... ndows.html

I noticed this was installed on my PC last night. I didn't look into it until you just mentioned it. I do not have an iPod but I recently got a Zune, not sure if Zune uses it as well. Could Quicktime require it as well?

I don't have Bonjour folder... Would reinstalling iTunes fix the problem?

I have iTunes and QuickTime Pro. I do not have Bonjour. They obviously don't require it. I doubt Zune would either as that's a Microsoft product.

Then why do I have it on my PC? Now I have to investigate.

Maybe it's not required but recommended for Zune?

mDNSResponder.exe is used by iTunes for music sharing and a Zune is considered as a music sharing component (I assume). mDNSResponder.exe is part of Bonjour for windows like ATNO/TW said...
