I am trying to disable Simple File Sharing on a Dell laptop running Windows XP Pro SP2. I can uncheck the box under Tools> Folder Options, and I will be able to set permissions, etc as I want until I restart the computer and then the Simple File Sharing box is checked again.

Has anyone else had this problem and do you know any fixes?

THanks!

Are you logged in as an administrator? If the account doesn't have the proper permissions to make the change, then you can't do it.

As as side note, having that checked doesn't mean that you're vulnerable to having someone from the outside read your files.

Yes, I am logged in as administrator.

I am working on an image for a new model laptop we bought. We've experienced this with a few models of Dell laptops we bought. We like to have that turned off because we have some software the we need to give users "Modify" rights to and that's the easiest way to do it.

Thanks
