skipping during games? skipping during windows task? both? is it skipping or windows refreshing itself? if its refreshing itself a lot slowly it could be because you have Spybot immunization on, i suggest turning the immunization part off if you have spybot.

usualy if your CPU useage is off the charts when idle its because of any one of these things.

1. Spyware: find ad-adware on the net and download the freeversion

2. Virus: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/houseca ... t_corp.asp is a good free online scanner.

3. You may have too many processes in your starup menu. check your task manager and see how many processes you got running ... you shouldnt have more then 34 running while idle.

4. your page file usage max may be too low check to see what its at in the task manager

what does your memory usage look like? how much of you ram do you have free when you are running idle?

when you open the task manager does it always show high cpu useage .. or only when you first start taskmanager? your CPu useage while idle and not moving the mouse should be 0-5% only

was your computer working fine when you got it? if so it means you must have changed a setting or installed some software that is effecting your computer. check system in the control panel and make sure you are running at the Correct GHZ of when you bought it. Also run through all your installed programs and see if there are any shadowy programs that you are suspicious of.

I stumbled upon the same problem today and was looking for answers. Basically my brother was downloading 3 files (babylon whatever that is) and I was trying to play an online game. The game periodically experianced large amounts of lag where I was booted from a server. So finally it lagged so bad that I hit alt+cont delete to shut the game off. It was then when I realized the problem. Not only is my mouse skipping but music, games, ect. When idle my CPU usage is 24% =/. I dont think my bro has spyware because this is the first time it has happened..... I can't really even load the game anymore it takes so long.. Please healp thank you.

It would still be worth investigating spyware and/or a virus as a problem. Can you pinpoint a specific task that is causing the problem? Also, what operating system are you using?

lag in games that wasnt there before can be caused by a ton of things.

1. running spyware Applications
2. Viruses
3. Not enough space on Harddrive (always have at least 1-5 gigs free on your harddrive)
4. Program that you were running before you started the game may have a memory leak (to fix this uninstall the program with the memory leak or restart the computer before playing your game)
5. Too many background programs running (every little thing adds up msn, hardware monitors, music programs, etc)
6. Defrag your harddrive once every 3-6 months at least
7. New hardware youve placed in may not have recent drivers so your performance will be slowed.
8. Get all windows updates
