SNMP

Anybody every use SNMP? I just downloaded it and started running it on my network to watch if any of my customers go down. But the discovery part linked the IP address together wrong in some areas. If anybody has any advice it would be greatly appreciated 
other than that I'll keep playing around with the settings and see if I get closer to what I want out of it
