i'm trying to figure out why my dell was freezing and in doing so have encountered more issues.
dell tech had me remove plugs and connections to both cd roms because my one drive was noisy and not reading. afterwards, i rebooted and they didn't show up. i tightened the connections and they were back. i did a few maintenance procedures and it's running fine but now there are no cd roms appearing in control panel. when i boot up - the lights don't come on and they are dead. i pushed the connections in tightly.
i have no clue what to do now. i was going to replace one bad cd rom and wipe the drive, install XP - add memory. but with this new problem - i don't want to waste money. any ideas? one was not functioning - one was - prior to the cleaning and touching plugs this morning. now i have none.

I'm guessing that it could be that you have a bad motherboard, there could be bent pins, corodded cables, or the cable have been ripped apart. Thats all im guessing.
