What happens when you try to open up a .txt file are you sure that it is a text file and not a PDF file?

a PDF file is the file format that Acrobat Reader uses. :)

its a free download 6.0 is the newest version.

If I were you I would check my C:/windows/notepad.exe it there if it is not you can download it. Second check your filetypes properties window to see if text files are assign to a program to open it.

with system recovery what happens is that anyprograms that u've downloaded previously are lost including mirosoft office if you've had that, try to install it and see what happens.
I'm not sure if notepad is your problem because I can't open any notepad files .
