I need to access d:\inetpub\wwwroot on my windows 7 machine from my xp box.

I have shared the folder as \\win7machine\wwwroot

Trying to map the network drive, I have tried to browse the workgroup. I can see win7machine in the workgroup, but clicking the plus button shows nothing. I have tried to connect using different credentials, \\win7machine\myname and the proper password, and then browse the network, same thing.

Typing in \\win7machine\wwwroot for the path with the 7 machine credentials says it can't be found.

I can't find out how to add an xp user to the seven machine.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

First make sure that none of the firewalls are blocking it. That includes Norton or any other garbage other than windows firewall. Then try start, run, type \\IP_address of the machine. If the shares don't open, they aren't shared correctly.

It is my KIS. I can't figure out how to allow the connecting computer to be excluded.

File & print sharing has to be checked in exceptions. Disable the firewall to test the connection if you can't do anything else.
