Hello!

Win XP SP2. I got the classic blue screen with the bootup error so i tried to run chkdsk through the recovery console - but I keep getting asked for an administrator password - I try to use the one I use with Win XP but it refuses to accept that. Is there a way of bypassing ?

Thanks in advance!

Try leaving it blank. By default XP will install with no password unless the original administrator that installed the OS assigned one. If you are the administrator of the computer and leaving it blank doesn't work and you can't remember the password, there are a variety of free tools for password recovery. A search engine query will provide you with a long list. My favorite is Offline NT Password & Registry Editor.
