ok i was surfing the net one day when my com jammed. restarted it, and when windows xp was loading, a blue screen pops up saying 'unmountable boot volume' , and a few option appear... tried to run in safe mode but then again, same problem occurs...

I attempted to run my XP disc, because i had did a little research and came across the "chkdsk /r" and was going to attempt it.
My computer loads up to the proccess, and as it goes to start it, another blue screen pops up, that then tells me to check the computer and try again.

Any idea's to whats stopping it from letting me to get to the screen, to run the repair?

Follow the six steps in these instructions. The pictures show you exactly what you should see.

When you get to step six and are at the command prompt type fixmbr
You'll get a warning. Just accept it and reboot normally.

Read this post. I had the same problem earlier this week and I discuss a lot of the things I did there. mswindows-forum/recovery-console-hangs-resolved-t100321.html

Try these steps

1. Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer.

Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD-ROM drive if you are prompted.

2. When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.

3. If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you must access from the Recovery Console.

4. When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.

5. At the command prompt, type chkdsk /r , and then press ENTER.

6. At the command prompt, type exit , and then press ENTER to restart your computer.

This takes a bit longer, but the system should boot back into Windows.

Take care
