Just released at 1800 ,6 pm EST 09/18
It is a re-release of the patch that came out in Aug.

This is a new internet fix of Microsoft design !
so lets have some feedback on it.

Then I guess it will go up in SP2 thread .
I stuck it here so more people would see .

you may receive an error message that says that you cannot establish a connection
Quote:
884020 Programs that connect to IP addresses that are in the loopback address range may not work as you expect in Windows XP Service Pack 2
On a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2), programs that connect to IP addresses that are in the loopback address range may not work as you expect. For example, you may receive an error message that says that you cannot establish a connection.
CAUSE
This problem occurs if the program connects to a loopback address other than 127.0.0.1. Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) prevents connections to all IP addresses that are in the loopback address range except for 127.0.0.1.RESOLUTION
Hotfix information
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Windows XP service pack that contains this hotfix.

If your not getting that message then don't install this Patch

This patch was released back in Aug. and this is a re-release of it.?

I'm not 100% confident that installing a Hotfix from Microsoft who even admits that it may still require more testing is necessarily the solution to a problem. I have to assume that is the reason that Microsoft does not post it publically until it's ready.

It might work for those with this problem, but as you noted, if you are not having this problem - don't install the hotfix.

Just my 2 cents.

Interesting to know. Thanks for the update.

//As an aside. This post being separate is just fine. The search that I gave in the SP2 thread will bring up this result at OZZU immediately and at Google in just a couple days.
