URGENT HELP NEEDED!
i have a major problem, i am running windows xp pro
i installed a new sound card yesterday to replace my old one
i also used a fan to get rid of alot of the dust, put the case back on and that was that.
my bro said he wanted a cd doing (copying) i installed "Nero Burn" tried to write it and it began writing to my HD, went to "my computer" and there were "NO" cd drives?
they had vanished
i re-opend the case and had a look, no wires had come out or anything
i checked the "Devices" in the systems part of control pannel and my cd drives came up with a "!" in yellow, clicked on them and they all said:
Code: [ Select ]
Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.
  1. Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)
  2. Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

but everything is ok?....the cdrom drives even open and close!....help!

go to My Computer/Manage/Device Manager. Go to DVD/CD-ROM Drives,
and open the +. when you see your cd-rom there, right-click and select
uninstall. then reboot. It should be fine after that.

you used a fan to remove the dust from the computer? Why not compressed air? Check the IDE cable at the back of the CD-ROM and on the motherboard side. Also check your BIOS setings, to make sure the BIOS is AUTO detecting your drives. Watch the POST and see if the CD-ROM is in the list and in the correct spot on the list see example below

primary master.......hard drive
primary slave......... (possibly your CD-ROM or extra hard drive)
secondary master... (possibly your CD-ROM)
secondary slave.....none

Since it still opens and closes the power connector is good, but the IDE cable isn't seated all the way.
