Virtual memory Question.

hi
i hav win XP prof running on a 1.5GHz P4 with 512MB ram and 40GB hard disk i have made one entire partition of 2 GB for swap or virtual memory...
does too much virtual memory slow down the system?

As far as the size of the pagefile, only thing it could hurt is if you fill up your hdd and run out of space for other stuff.

You know you can see just how much of your pagefile you're using in task manager, performance tab. The PF Usage (in MB) is how much you're actually using.

Swap file only kicks in if you run out of RAM. If you fnd yourself using virtual memory...time to upgrade your RAM. And yes...using virtual memory slows down your system.

Allocating 2 gigs for virtual memory won't slow things down. As ATNO pointed out, it only kicks in if you run out of ram.
