I VPN frequently from home to work using a Win2K computer. My home network is a simple p2p using a seimens router with three machines hooked up - two 98 and this Win2k. I only use the VPN on the Win2K machine. One of the 98 machines I work with pretty simultanously with the 2K machine for multi-tasking.

Whenever I open the VPN pipe, I lose internet access and Email connectivity with the 98 machines. In order to regain internet connectivity on the 98 machines I have to close the pipe and reboot the 98 machines to regain access.

Anyone know of a workaround to this. I'm sure it's the VPN pipe causing the problem. At the moment it's merely an inconvenience. JUst wondering if there is a way to allow simultaneous connectivity, or is this just the way it is? I'm assuming it's because my 98 machines are not authenticated on the domain?

I keep looking above your post to see who posted the question .lol

This is all stuff you already no ..so
I don't no alot about VPN's (I do no about internet connectivity)

look at this first ? IPSEC protocol
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/se ... client.asp

I was reading more about above ,looks like thats used for mostly
3d rendering amongst the VPN ? maybe not .lol

http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -us;247431

On the interface used to create the VPN, untick the box use remote default gateway.also under advanced, Keep Alive is ticked.

It could be as simple as letting those pc's no that they are alive !if there
is a latency problem.
There is a ton of little utility's out there that just do a simple re-fresh
so as to keep them alive .(you no what I mean) lol

also you have to look at how QoS is deb out between them.

Keep It Alive" and "SendTo FTP"
http://www.pclightning.com/

here's there page:
http://www.pclightning.com/kpalive.html

http://www.webmasterfree.com/software/D ... lator.html
do you do this:
go to start, run and type \\machine-name, you can see shares on 'machine-name.

What type of router are you using .

Seems like there is problems with older OS's and newer routers config.

I have to read more .
also i think there's a reg hack for 98 that forces internet refresh.

Thank you. I missed this in my search:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -us;247431

That is the explanation. I do not wish to change that, so I'll live with the inconvenience. I appreciate the research and help.

Good deal !

I have messed around with 2003 (but not what it's ment for)
I have installed it about 12x now (in different configs)
totally stripped of all it's purpose.(used totally for gaming purpose
over lan ,and multi internet online)
Cause it utilizes system ram (2003) in ways that XP wishes it could.
So I am learning it .

Good luck with MSCE .

Hi ATNO, I really don't know how I did not saw this question before :?: I found a solution to this some time ago, only my case is slightly different, I had two pcs connected to a hub (win xp pro both) and I share dialup connection in one. I use a VPN connection to my office too. This is and extract form a Network help file in windows, BTW I found this file by clicking on "Learn more about Internet Connection Sharing" link in Advanced tab of VPN connection properties:

Quote:
If a VPN connection is created on the ICS host computer, and ICS is enabled on this connection, then all Internet traffic is routed to the corporate network and all of the computers in your home or small office network can access the corporate network. If ICS is not enabled on the VPN connection, other computers will not have access to the Internet or corporate network while a VPN connection is active on the ICS host computer

When I open the VPN, as soon it gets connected and ready, I go to VPN connection properties, advanced tab, and enable Internet Connection Sharing. woala! that's all, my other computer still can connect to internet and I can work with my VPN with no problemo at all seƱor :D

The only thing a bit annoying is that I have to enable internet connection sharing back to my original dialup connection when I finish using the VPN tunnel, but what tha heck, nobody said it has to be easy *wink

Hope this help you ATNO
