When I try to create a VPN, my options are grayed out. I have no clue as to what it would be. The option to choose "Dial up Connection" or "Virtual Private Network Connection" are the two options grayed out.

I have tried to diable the QoS Packet Scheduler, but no help either.

Any help would be great!

That's a little odd. Even with XP home you should have those two options. Are you logged in with Administrator authority?

In your services console, make sure Remote Access Connection Manager service is started. At the moment that's the only thing I could think of to help.

I looked at the services, they were set to automatic but failed at startup. the Telephony service was disabled I turned it on and it allowed the remote acess service to start.

Thanks for the quick help.

Your suggestion helped me to, almost seven years later! Thanks a bunch!

Microsoft suggested "Reinstall SP1". Idiots (I have SP3 installed). So thinking that "there's got to be another way," I searched and found this thread.

My "Create VPN connection" is no longer greyed out!

Kudos!

Nice! Good to see old posts still have value.

Thanks a lot for your solution. I was having trouble setting up a VPN service because the option was greyed out but enabling those services got it working without even needing to restart. The VPN provider's only suggestion was to re-install windows XP! Didn't want to do that (obviously)! Happy VPN-ing.
