It could be a DNS problem but be sure that you don't have any firewalls running which includes Norton or McAfee Security suites. What type of connection do you have, DSL, Cable, Dialup, etc...?
Do you have a router and are you trying to route the connection through another PC?

I have a router on verizon DSL, I've tried other computers connected to the same router in my house and I could not logon my web site. weirdest *plum* i've seen in a while, no firewalls anywhere, assured no blocks from my host, maybe i'll call verizon and ask for a new ip? clueless right now.

Open the web interface of the router and check all the settings. If you can borrow another router somewhere, do that as a test. Ping the site by name and IP address. Do you get responses from both?
