why wont this cmd command work for me?

I would suggest you change your directory up to c:\ and try it. I have had some commands not work at the user directory level.
Type "cd.." hit enter repeat until you are at the c:\prompt.

Or just do cd\ and press enter

Let me know if this works, I don't have a vista machine to test it.
