:( For the past couple of weeks I have gone through an agonizing re-install of win2000 pro. Up to a couple of weeks ago everything had been running fine until a major crash. At present I can start up the system, but when any icon is double clicked, there is absolutely no response. The only things which seem to work are Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Search functions. Any help to resolve this freeze is greatly appreciated!

Thanks

You might have a corrupted windows file. You should try repairing the operating system using your Win2k disk. Boot from it like you are going to format it, but instead of formatting, look for the option that says repair.

You could also look to see if you had system restore enabled and see if you have a restore point before it crashed.

If none of that works, you might want to consider formatting and reinstalling again, which shouldn't be too painful since your install is only a couple weeks old.
