I have reason to believe my computer is infected with win32 virus. I've tried a lot of things and can't get rid of it so I planned on formatting the hard drive but I can't even do that. When I try I get a message reading:
"Windows cannot format this drive. Quit any disk utilities or other programs that are using this drive, and make sure that no window is displaying the contents of the drive. Then try formatting again."
I close every program I can and get the same message and then try to go into task manager to close anything else but I can't open task manager in any way. How can I format my drive?!!
Thanks in advance

Don't format yet. Download, update and run anti malware from malwarebytes.org

If that doesn't help, download and run Hijack This. Post the log.

Wow, thank you. Malwarebytes worked better than any other malware remover I have tried. I can now open task manager and format if I chose. But is this the end of the problem? Here is my log file:

Ugh... Everything seemed fine for a while but now my computer is back to not opening taskmanager, etc. Back to not being able to format. I ran malwarebytes again and it found more trojans and after I finished and rebooted I still can't open task manager.. Is there another way that I can just override this virus and format !? Please help me out
Thanks

Did you update anti malware before you ran it the second time? If not, you have to do that.

Yes, I updated Malwarebytes, scanned and fixed, and rebooted twice and still no task manager.. It find numerous trojans everytime that don't seem to be going away. And it will not allow me to delete:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {6BA8BF5B-1C3C-45AA-B024-7563486E5162} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\gpeditd.dll

It seems every way of getting rid of it are blocked. I wish I had just formatted when I had the chance.
Any other suggestions? Either to get rid of the problem or to format. I think it is win32.trojan.agent because it seems to come up a lot. I will post my new log file again but at this point I really just want to find a way to format. I am losing my patience with this computer. ha ha

Thanks again, your help is much appreciated.

If you can't delete gpeditd.dll , run regedit and click edit, find, type it in the box and press enter. When it finds it, delete it. Then keep hitting F3 after it finds it so you get all entries.

"Registry editing has been disabled by your administrator"

It seems every way of getting rid of this thing has been blocked. I can't open task manager, regedit, or even format. It is very frustrating. When I first used malwarebytes and rebooted I was able to access task manager but shortly later I could not and now I can't get back to that point. I should have reformatted at that point. Maybe if I try another anti malware ?!
Thanks

Hey Don, I appreciate you taking your time to help me out. Not XP professional.. just XP. I've updated and used malwarebytes a few more times since my last post and still nothing. It seems like it is immune to this approach now. I'm really lost for ideas.

Sometimes the problem is a corrupt profile. See if you can set a password to the administrator's account or create another account with administrator rights, then login with that user name and password. If the problems stop, copy your data to that document folder and delete your current profile.

I had to do that with my brother's PC a few times. He was always getting malware from those stupid social networking sites.

The only one way to delete the win32 files. You have to format the PC OS.
