That was the best hug and kiss I had all day. Wait a minute. That was the only hug and kiss I had all day but it's only 6 PM.

To avoid spyware and viruses, some of the things I suggest are:

Don't use toolbars. Uninstall them. I have Google Toolbar and I shouldn't even have that.
Stay away from those social networking sites, unless you're making money from them.
Don't click on attachments unless you requested someone to send it. If your friend sent one, don't open it until you ask if they actually sent it and it wasn't a forward.

If you're computer is running ok now, leave it alone unless you want to uninstall the toolbars. You would do that from add and remove programs in the control panel.

Thanks for the second kiss.

One other thing that could help speed things up.

With Windows 2000 IE 6 Temporary internet files storage defaults to nearly 2gb. That is way too large and will slow down your internet browsing dramatically.

To check the setting open IE, go to Tools>Internet Options>General Tab

Under Temporary Internet Files click Settings. Reduce the number to 50MB and then clear all temporary files.

If you have multiple user accounts on the computer you will need to do this for each user.

I did what you suggested, and that made more difference than anything I've done before.
Even after doing the "hijack this-fix thing", I still had to click several times on a prompt to get a reaction. After setting the number to 50 MB, and clearing the temp files, it works like a new machine!
Should I clear the temp files periodically, just for maintanance?
Huge hug for ATNO!!

Clearing the Temp files regularly is not a bad idea.
