I have Windows XP Home Edition. I've turned off al the crappy programs that don't need to load on boot (like MSN Messenger, RealPlayer, QuickTime, etc.)

However, when I boot:
My desktop loads, the mouse functions, but if I try to open programs, nothing happens until about two minutes later, when the startup noise plays and the CPU makes that processing noise. (I love how I describe the noises. Sorry.)

During that two-minute lag time, there's no processing or anything and the computer appears normal, but it's basically not responding.

Does anyone know what's going on or how I can fix it?
