windows xp login

I just got a computer that was donated to a friend of mine. i thought i could perhaps re- install windows but found out that i couldn't. my problem is that i am trying to log into the computer with the "administrative" login and password that is usually set on a computer but it wouldn't let me. i tried starting it in safe mode and that didn't work. could anyone help me with this problem. i don't really care if i have to wipe out the hard drive i just need computer that will actually work so i could give it back to my friend so please HELP!

You can try to install a fresh copy of windows again.
