windows media player

i used to play VCDs with windows media player. the file type is *.dat. but now after i removed Win XP and installed it again, the media player says that the file type is not supported. so what is the problem?

Have you updated your Windows Media Player? If no do so. I got that same problem when I switched from Win98 to WinXP. If that doesnt work try http://www.google.com, search for "windows media player file types"

make sure you have all the correct codecs installed... that could be your prob. do a search for media player codecs and see if that solves your prob.

i agree with gadget -- you need the proper codecs to view it.
you can always try http://www.divx.com to start.
