I bet that this has been answered before, but I did a search and didnt find it, so here I am.

I have windows media player9.0, and every video I play is in black and white. Ive tried changing the resolution and color setting in my properties for my desktop. Whats wierd is if I minimize the paused movie, then bring it back up, its in color. Then when I start it playing, it immediatlly goes back to black and white. I'm sure that the problem is just glaring in my face, but I cant seem to see it.

What file format are the videos? Also, have you tried them in another player?

Try them in another player. WMP is, well, dodgy.

Yeah, Ive been using Quicktime lately (unfortunatly too ) and it works ok, but I still have my computer set up to run WMP when I click on a video, and was hoping to get it working.

I'm not suggesting you switch players. Only asked for troubleshooting purposes.

Do all video files play in black and white or is it limited to certain file types?

You might try reinstalling the WMP9 codecs.

Also, go into Options and on the Performance tab, try adjusting the Acceleration slider to see if that makes a difference. You might try some of the advanced options.

Ok, I'll try that when I get home (@ work now).

In answer to your question, yes, it does play ALL files in black and white.

Hi

Just joined the forums because I seem to have exact same problem as described in Smokenjoes first post.

On my system (win98se,GeForce 2 MX200, WMP9, DirectX9.0b) I have found that disabling Hardware Acceleration in WMP9 does bring back colour. (You can do the same by running dxdiag and disabling DirectDraw)

A guy here

http://www.techzonez.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10176

seemed to have the same problem but solved it by using a prog. called Driver Cleaner in between uninstalling and reinstalling graphics drivers.

I've downloaded the program but have an installation query so I don't intend trying it yet until I get a response from my post on the Driver Cleaner forum.

I'll keep a watch here in case anyone finds any other solution but if I eventually get a result I will post again.
