Yeah, moviemaker's a neat piece of kit, and can be very handy..

I've used it sometimes, but I prefer to use Premiere given the choice. I just wish it didn't cost so damn much, lol.

yes premier is a bit pricey, but if your a professional or just use it alot it all seems well worth all the feature is has packed into it.

I like premiere for the layer transparency & ability to import PSDs...

I'm not sure if Movie Maker supports this, it's been a while since I played with it.

I love the blue/green screen abilities of Premiere too.. can make for real interesting movies ;)

Another cool app is Pinnacle Studio... It's pretty much a point n' click like Movie Maker.. I got it free with my Pinnacle Studio DC10+ Capture card...

Very fun to play with :)

You can get the Pinnacle Studio DC10+ for less than 100 bucks these days (which is a damn site less than the equivalent to $600 I paid in the UK when I bought mine - that was about 5 years ago). It has composite in & out, as well as SVideo in & out.

I had it hooked up to the SVideo output on my buddy's Sony VX2000 MiniDV camera, was practically DVD quality capture - obviously not quite as good as the actual MiniDV tape tranferred over firewire, but much more handlable & easier to mess with on the PC.

The end result was great though, and burned out as a DivX or SVCD (so it could be played on a standalone DVD player), it looked easily as good as a VERY clean broadcast quality image.
