I recently got a new 64bit server and installed Windows Small Business Server 2008 on it.

My issue is that it takes a very long time to start up and shut down. Is this a common thing with SBS 2008 or do i have something else going on?

The hardware should be fine and i haven't loadedf it down with programs yet.

I'm assuming that you have Active Directory installed on it? Ive used both SBS 2000 and SBS 2003. Both were snails to start up and shut down. Doesn't surprise me that 2008 would be any different. I have also a 64Bit with Enterprise 2003 installed on it, and it reboots as fast as any normal PC. When I was in classes for this stuff my instructor told us that AD was really going to slow down the boot process.

I actually don't have Active Directory running. It's a stand alone server for my email and website.

ok, so active directory IS running :P

I also noticed that MS Exchange was running as well. I've disabled all the Exchange processes but need to wait to see if it's faster on the next reboot.
