SP3 should download and install with SP1A It is supported (provided you own a legit copy of XP).

Quote:
To install SP3, either Windows XP Service Pack 1a (SP1a) or Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) must already be installed.

If it won't install or you don't actually have SP1A installed you may be able to install SP2 and then install SP3. The SP2 Download is still available (SP1 is not and is no longer supported).

SP2 Download

//keep in mind, both SP2 and SP3 will validate your copy of XP to be sure it is legit.

Then install SP1A and you should be able to go right to SP3 and skip SP2

What kind of errors do you get when you try to install SP2. There really isn't a need to have SP1 or SP1a to install SP2. With a valid copy of XP Pro it should install just fine as the service packs are cummulative. i.e. it includes everything that was in SP1.

Perhaps if you describe the errors you might get some ideas to get it working.
