( I would say the same thing as what you saying, it just that I got tired of it)

like for example this post

http://www.ozzu.com/ftopic66923.html

that was fixed, tho, but I got all kind of errors like that all the time

Of course asp works great on a windows server, it was designed to.

PHP can be installed on a Windows server and will run just fine. You can also install Apache on a windows server and use that instead of IIS.

ATNO wrote a pretty god tutorial on installing PHP and MySQL on Windows using IIS.

I'm sorta with Grinch. Windows servers have been quite stable for me, and I've found very few limitations on what I can do with them. In fact my 64bit Enterprise file server pretty much rocks. ZERO downtime or crashes on any of them in the 3 years I've been using them here unless I personally reboot the servers or we have an extended power outage.

cjxxi, I have this vague suspicion you're trying to make Windows XP your "perfect server". If so, that's where you went wrong.

Specially Windows XP SP2 as they reduced the number of Half open connections to 10 or some other nice low number. You can get a patched tcpip.sys file or something like that which is supposed to increase it to 50 or 100.

I been running APACHE + PHP + ASP + CGI + AND ALL WHAT YOU CAN ADD TO WINDOWS, 3 years now

have test lof of staff, even php 6 :D
http://www.ozzu.com/ftopic67639.html
apache 2.2.3

Of course Apache is better than IIS

but I found limitations, I didn't want to accept that.
for what I want I need an OS that is more than Windows OS

so, the time is been telling me alot, some times get scripts that won't just work.

some people make their scripts so they can run on Linux, not all of them, but yeah, some good scripts yes.

:(

so, I know Windows Is a good Os, been working on it for years, but when someone want the full potential our of their servers, You need more than just Windows.

This is a little of topic but just a quick question. Doesn't windows servers require a more powerfull machine? Most people just use windows XP to run as a server because the server versions are expensive. It seems anyone can get a linux server OS for free or very little. Like grinch is asking. If cjxxi is running windows XP alot of the system is being used to display graphics and not proccess information.

At the moment I am sitting on the fence between windows and linux servers. I work for a company that deploys linux/windows servers to small/medium sized businesses and they both have good and bad points.

Believe it or not some of these businesses do not have a broadband connection and we need to provide technical support. So we set up a modem connection. Can somebody please explain how you can adminster a Windows 2003 Server box over a modem connection? Yes it is possible but very very tedious. VERY simple tasks require 6-7 mouse presses and multiple windows opening which is not good over a modem, more screen refreshes etc.

Whereas I can dial onto a linux box and issue a command that does exactly what I want it to do. (None of wheres that tick box etc) Once you know linux windows sometimes just appears strange.

For people like grinch and ATNO who know what they are doing then Windows is probably a good option. The problem is too many people run through wizards who dont know what they are doing (not necessarily windows fault) and then all of a sudden it is wide open.

That is your problem, using a nonserver OS as a server.
