In outlook hit CRTL+SHIFT+A and it opens your appointments so that you may set a new one.

i don't know if its bin sed but hold shift and move your mouse wheel up gos forward and move it down to go back . (ie6)

in most browsers:

• alt left arrow - back
• alt right arrow - forward

in ie in particular ctrl-tab puts you in the address bar

edit-and i just want to add that this is probably the most helpful(in a general sense) thread that i have ever run across. so much so that it prompted me to join the board.

you can also go back a page by hitting Backspace

and then there's all the old ctrl short cuts:
Ctrl-N for new window, Ctrl-S for save, Ctrl-O for open, Ctrl-P for print, etc

Shortcuts to Windows 2000 mmc consoles (should be the same or similar in XP):

Click start | run

Type:
msinfo32.msc -- brings up the system information console
fpmmc.msc -- brings up the Frontpage server extensions console
certmgr.msc -- brings up the certificate manager stores console
ciadv.msc -- brings up the Indexing services console
compmgmt.msc -- brings up the computer management console
devmgmt.msc -- brings up the device management console
dfrg.msc -- brings up the disk defragmenter console
diskmgmt.msc -- brings up the disk management console
eventvwr.msc -- brings up the event viewer console
faxserv.msc -- brings up the fax services console (if available --otherwise you get errors)
fsmgmt -- brings up the shared folders console
gpedit -- brings up the group policy editor
lusmgr -- brings up the local users and groups console
ntmsmgr -- brings up the removable storage manager
mtmsoprq.msc -- brings upthe Removable storage operator requests console (for the record I'm clueless about what this and ntmsmgr does)

Change the "Microsoft Internet Explorer, provided by ISP Name" stuff that gets plastered across your internet explorer title bar.

NOTE : Do not attempt this if your uncomfortable with the windows registry!
Also, I have tested this in w2k/IE6, Nothing else.

HKCU\Software\Micorsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
There is a string named "Window Title"
Whatever the value of that is will be plastered across your internet explorer title bar (next to the page title)

Holding down Alt and hitting Tab lets you scroll through all open windows/programs.

and go to Administrative template and customize your PC as wish but

Here are all the tips and tricks over the last 14 pages all compiled on a single page, copy and paste into a word processor and save, if I have missed any out I apologise in advance...

While holding down ctrl +
X = cut
C = copy
V = paste
P = Printing
O = This opens the URL dialog box in most browsers.
R = Refresh
Z = Undo
A = Selects All
W = closes full screen popup windows that have no other controls.
B = Bold
I = italic
U = Underline
E = Built-in IE Search feature
N = to open a new browser windows
D = (I.E) to save the page to your favourites.
B = (I.E) to organize favourites
S = Save

Winkey + Pause = display the Systems Properties page
Winkey + R = display the Run dialog box
Winkey + M = minimize all windows 0r Ctrl+Esc immediately followed by Alt+M
Winkey + D = minimize all windows. Press again and desktop apps reappear.
Winkey + Shift + M = undo minimize all windows
Winkey + F1 = starts Windows Help
(F1 by itself brings up Help in the current application)
Winkey + E = start Explorer
Winkey + F = start Find
Winkey + F + CNTL = start Find Computer
Winkey + B = Sets focus on the task bar
Winkey + TAB = cycle through taskbar buttons
Winkey + BREAK = display Systems Properties panel
Winkey + L = lock Desktop
Windows key + r = goes to run prompt
Crtl+I = Opens Favorites
Shift+Tab= Goes back a field
Crtl+Esc= Start Menu

F5 - Force refresh in IE
F6 (IE) - highlight address bar

This little trick allows you display your windows version in the lower right corner of your desktop (above the system clock)
Go to Start > Run > regedit
Go tot he registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop in there will be key called PaintDesktopVersion the value of this is currently set to 0 (for false) so what you can do is right click on the key, choose Modify from the context menu and set the Value Data to 1 (for true).

This next trick allows you to decide whether windows should display the blue screen of death or if it should auto restart when the system crashes.
Go to Start > Run > regedit
In there, navigation to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\CrashControl
In there will be an option called AutoReboot, right click on this key and choose Modify, set the Value Data to 0 for blue screen, or 1 for auto-restart.

To increase the maximum number of simultaneous downloads in IE from the default of 3.
Run REGEDIT
Navigate to :[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]
Add the following DWORDS:
Dword Name: "MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server"
Dword Value: 00000019
Dword Name: "MaxConnectionsPerServer"
Dword Value: 00000019
This increases the number of simultaneous downloads (per instance of IE) to 10,

SHIFT+CTRL+Left Arrow - Selects the word immediately to the left of the cursor.
SHIFT+CTRL+Right Arrow - Selects the word immediately to the right of the cursor.
SHIFT+Left Arrow - Selects one character to the left of the cursor.
SHIFT+Right Arrow - Selects one character to the right of the cursor.
SHIFT+End - Selects all text from the cursor to the end of the line.
SHIFT+Home - Selects all text from the cursor to the beginning of the line.
Shift + Home takes you to the top of the page in a browser
Shift + End takes you to the bottom of the page in a browser.
SHIFT+Insert - paste text from clipboard at the location of the cursor.
SHIFT+DELETE - Deletes an item immediately without sending it to the recycle bin.
Holding SHIFT while inserting a CDROM bypasses AutoPlay.
In open applications, PRINT SCRN copies the entire screen to clipboard, whereas ALT+PRINT SCRN copies only the active application window to clipboard.
SHIFT+CTRL+HOME -- Selects all text from the cursor to the beginning of the document and moves cursor to beginning.
SHIFT+CTRL+END -- Selects all text from the cursor to the end of the document and moves cursor to the end.
Hitting the left shift button 5 times quickly brings up the keyboard accessibility option.


ALT + Print Screen = Copies the selected window into the clipboard
F5 refreshes most apps in windows
When filling out a form on a webpage pressing the space bar will add checkmarks to check boxes and will enable radio buttons.
If you hold the Shift key while scroll your mouse wheel in IE, this should take you to previous page or forward page depending on your scroll.

In IE:
If you just type the name of a website into the address bar then press Ctrl and Enter windows automatically puts http://www. before it and .com afterwards.....it saves a lot of time.
e.g.
Type "ozzu" into the address bar
Press Ctrl and Enter
http://www.ozzu.com appears!

wanna make your installed printer cannot be deleted ?
here's the trick: (Registry Editor)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
Add a DWORD named "NoDeletePrinter" (without quotes of course),
and change the value to 1
Don't want allow user to add printer ?
Add a DWORD named "NoAddPrinter" (without quotes of course),
and change the value to 1

Tired of looking for files via Windows Explorer? Create a custom toolbar for it.
Right Click any blank spot on your desktop toolbar. Navigate to Toolbars|New Toolbar.
Navigate to your C: drive (or any other drive or folder you'd like).
Left Click it once to highlight it and click OK.
Your C: drive is now on your desktop toolbar. Click the double arrows >> to expand it and navigate through it like you do your start menu.

start > shut down
> select shut down from the menu
> hold the shift key when pressing OK
= the operating system will restart WITHOUT restarting the computer.

This one is priceless! It has driven me nuts for over a year. Those of you who have Windows NT or Windows 2000 machines probably already know that Microsoft exluded MSCONFIG from those two OS's. It makes it so difficult to elliminate garbage from startup. If you don't know where to find the program or it doesn't have an option to not run at startup it's almost impossible to elliminate. I was almost ready to ask the question here, but finally did a couple productive searches and found the solution.
Microsoft added this back in XP. You can work this one of two ways. If you have access to an XP machine you can copy msconfig.exe to your Win NT or Win2K machine in the System32 folder.
If you don't have access to an XP machine you can download the zip file from thetechguide.com - http://www.thetechguide.com/downloads.html (you'll see it at the bottom) here's the direct link to the zip file - http://downloads.thetechguide.com/msconfig.zip
Again, unzip the file and copy it to System32. It will execute in Start|Run like anything else in the System32 folder will.
(don't let the terms on the site "Ripped from WinXP" bother you. This is not a crack, it's a simple matter of copy and paste.)

Make Start menu faster.
go to run>regedit> HKEY current user>Control panal>desktop and look for menu Show Delay. At the right hand Side they will be a list, set to Number 0 then Restart computer then done, you have a faster start menu.

There doesn't seem to be that many registry tweaks posted, so I'll post a few that I've found to be helpful...


NOTE: Tweaking the registry can make your operating system cease to function as desired or completely. Tweak at your own risk!



To open up registry:

start > run > regedit



To create a new value:

right click in right frame > new > select value specified
or
edit > new > select value specified



Disable the Ability to Right Click on the Desktop:

Browse to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
Create a new DWORD value called "NoViewContextMenu" and set it to 1



Copy To and a Move To option in your right click menu (when right clicking files):

Browse to:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers
Right click the ContextMenuHandlers entry, and from the menu select New > Key
Name the new Key "Copy To"
Repeact the last step, but name it "Move To"
Change the (Default) string value found in the Copy To key to {C2FBB630-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}
Change the (Default) string value found in the Move To key to {C2FBB631-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}



Remove Run from the Start Menu:

Browse to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
Create a new DWORD value called "NoRun" and set it to 1



Remove Recent Documents Menu from the Start Menu:

Browse to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
Create a new BINARY value called "NoRecentDocsHistory" and set it to "01 00 00 00"
Create a new BINARY value called "NoRecentDocsMenu" and set it to "01 00 00 00"



Remove Help from the Start Menu:

Browse to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
Create a new BINARY value called "NoSMHelp" and set it to "01 00 00 00"



Blank username box on logon screen:

Windows 98 or Me-
Browse to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Network\Logon
Create a new STRING value, or modify the existing value, called "DontShowLastUser" and set it to "1".

Windows 2000 or XP-
Browse to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
Create a new STRING value, or modify the existing value, called "DontDisplayLastUserName" and set it to "1" to enable or "0" to disable the restriction.

Windows NT-
Browse to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Create a new STRING value, or modify the existing value, called "DontDisplayLastUserName" and set it to "1" to enable or "0" to disable the restriction.

Restart Windows for the change to take effect.



After you have made a tweak to the registry:

Right click on Task Bar > select Task Manager > Processes > right click explorer.exe > end process
Go back to the applications tab > New Task > explorer > close task manager

In regedit I just realized that if you click on the tree and start typing it will jump to the first key that match what you type, ie click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE right arrow to expand,
type "soft" it jumps to software, right arrow to expand, type "micros" it jumps to microsoft, right arrow, "wind", right arrow, "cur", right arrow, "run"

I know clicking the HKEY then using Find is less typing but this is neat to know either way (it's actually faster to do it this way on my laptop )

So you run regedit (winkey + r and type regedit) then you expand the following fields HKEY_CURRENT_USER->Software->Microsoft->internet explorer then you click on main, then to the right of the screen you click on AutoSearch and in the window you delete number 4 and type 0. Done! I hope this helped someone cause this has annoyed me for like forever.

Well basicly it is an easier of selecting a part of a text without having to keep the left button down, or if using the keyboard having to hold down the arrow keys and shift all the time. So basicly you hit the left key once at the beggining of the text you want to select and then go to the end of the text you want selecting, there hold down the shift key and klick the ending point. Thats it
