I have started to get a popup asking me to reboot (now or later) it seems to happen every 30mins. - I guess it is as a result of applying windows updates. Is there a registry entry to turn this annoying feature off? - or at least set the reminder time to a number of hours! - I just know I am going to hit the reboot option just when I don't want to if it keeps popping up :-(

That's not normal. What operating system and is anything else unusual going on?

Windows XP Pro, - it has never done it before, but I have recently joined a domain - but it only started after downloading the latest updates today.

Check with your network admin. Some domain admins set installation programs to run in the background (you never see the actual install), but some may require a reboot to complete and you will get prompted for that. It would be my guess that is what is happening.

I concur. It is probably your admin pushing updates through SMS and resetting your computer for those to take effect.
