hi

i'm currently having trouble after installing SP2.

i have a website, and on this site i have an admin section which allows me to update the guestlist section. This admin section uses session cookies, and its all gone wrong now because of SP2.

When going back a page (using javascript:history.back() ) the internet explorer browser used to display the page that says the following:

'Warning: Page has Expired The page you requested was created using information you submitted in a form. This page is no longer available. As a security precaution, Internet Explorer does not automatically resubmit your information for you. '

Then when you click refresh you get the dialogue box saying:

'The page cannot be refreshed without resending the information. click retry to send the information again, or click cancel to return to the page that you were viewing,
To resubmit your information and view this Web page, click the Refresh button. '

then when you click refresh the page contents are displayed again - no problems!!!

BUT - after installing service pack 2, when i use the back button all i get is a page that gives the following error:

'The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings. '

i click refresh but now it gives me mySQL errors saying that i user:root cannot access the DB etc - but its not a script issue, as i have been on my father's laptop - running win ME, and everything runs fine. It even worked on my PC before SP2.

Anyway, i disabled the new windows firewall, disabled Norton Internet Security and set windows to allow cookies from my site, i even disabled the automatic cookie handling and told windows to always allow session cookies - BUT i still got the problem - so it must be some kind of browser issue?

can i fix this? How do i get the old style browser back that lets you resubmit the information gathered in a form?

Has anyone else had this trouble? you might not of noticed it yet!!! try going on a web site that you know always used to ask you to resubmit info if you tried going BACK - and see if it doesnt work

please help!!

Thats God's way of telling you not to install it .lol

try this can't hurt :
http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/IEFIX.htm

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=835935
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=811113
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=842242
Next time spend a week reading about SP2 (at least )

Basic information about what SP2 is scheduled to contain:
Microsoft's Service Pack 2 Home Page
Official - http://www.microsoft.com

Also if IE is your only browser ,then i would download
firefox,or opera ,,just to see if there is a remedy.

Browsers like avant ,and myie..still use IE shell .so that
would not be much of a troubleshooting tool
I myself have not used IE in over 3 years .

This is your next good bet ,i just copied and pasted it from another one of my posts.lol
You should still try firefox ,just to see what happens ,you can always un-install it (you probably won't tho)

There is limit on the concurrent half-open connections to 10
We no that after SP2 came out ,Microsoft quickly forced a hotfix
for this (event id-4622 appears in the event log)

To clarify, this restriction is for HALF OPEN TCP connections only, not the total number of TCP connections your PC can or will make.
But what they didn't do was go past the 10 restriction .
But what happened ,even after the hotfix alot of people still
are having TCP/IP internet problems

Then there was a patch that someone modded about 2-3 weeks ago
that took it up to 50 ,and alot of people with DSL,and dialup got good improvements from it ,with P2P ,and online gaming !

What this patch does is gives you unlimted

Unfortunately there exists no REG-key which could easily be set (would be so nice and easy, right? *smile*). The file TCPIP.SYS in the directory C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS and C:\WINDOWS\SERVICEPACKFILES\I386 has to be changed (system dependend eventually in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DLLCACHE, too).

Instruction:
Just download the patcher and execute it. It will automatically find the windows directory and ask, if it should increase/decrease. For higher values, please check the help with parameter /?.
After a successful patch, the new TCPIP.SYS will be automatically installed. After that, the computer should be restarted.

And everything is reversible back to original config, but i don't think
you will do that .

here is original patch from 10 to 50 modded;
http://www.lvllord.de/download.php?url= ... 11a-en.zip

original has auto patcher, and unlimted has directions how to add (easy)

and this is the Unlimted version :
http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?s ... =584334170

It's bundled with the original hotfix that microsoft released after
SP2 was released .
So you would install that first then the patcher

If you already have the Hotfix ,then just install the patcher.

I no alot of people that have installed the 10 to 50 with great
results (even people with cable)

But the unlimted one is new .

This is for Windows XP Home _Windows XP PRO

As long as you still have SP2 installed ,don't wory about
that patch ,it's only going to help your internet connection.

Firefox :Mozilla Firefox 1.0 PR .just came out on 09/12/04
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2248.html

Here's a list of them all : there's like 30 browser's out there now ,and there ALL better than IE ..if somebody tells you otherwise ,,lol , there
in denial .

thanks. i installed firefox, its very good. A little slow, and a little buggy, but its good.

and it solved the problem!!

some things appear differently through this browser, like table borderings etc. Using IE they were not visible, but using firefox they are, and my web page looks horrid now!! Any way of altering this - does firfox accpet stylesheets differently in any way?

It has Alot of features that IE could only dream of.
plus security wise,it's alot safer..by the time the weekend is over ,and you get use to it ,you'll never
touch IE again.
