Fleximusic Audio Editor looks like a great tool, particularly looks good for making music on the fly, improvising and stuff. Would be good to try it out sometime. A cutdown version just been announced too which might suit me at the moment.

Here's a small list of good audio editing softwares :)

Kristal Audio Engine: (freeware)
Multitrack Audio Editor - Supports VST plugins - high quality sound processing effects. Many freeware VST plugins available, including compressors, limiters, noise reduction, exciters, etc.

Audacity: (freeware)
Audacity is a free audio editor. You can record sounds, play sounds, import and export WAV, AIFF, Ogg Vorbis, and MP3 files, and more. Use it to edit your sounds using Cut, Copy and Paste (with unlimited Undo), mix tracks together, or apply effects to your recordings.

Sound Forge: (300 USD)
Sound Forge is an award-winning digital audio editor that includes a powerful set of audio processes, tools, and effects for recording and manipulating audio.

And Audition from Adobe as mentioned above is good. Personally I've been working with Sound Forge for a really long time already and I find it the best I've ever used. Costs a bit of money but 120% satisfied with it ;)

Here's another site with nice reviews of voice-changing software :) link is for mp3-audio editing software

Adobe is powerful, but not so user-friendly.
There is a video tutorial about video editing.

Audacity is great, but it's a little bit difficult to use when I first tried it.
